Sun Shines for Fall Fair Heffley Girl for Fair Queen
North Thompson Times Vol 4 No 48. Sept 4, 1968
Good weather prevailed for the 18th Annual North Thompson Fall Fair held Labour Day at the Louis Creek Fair grounds.
The day began with a bigger than ever parade which more people were able to see it come down the hill on the new route.
There was the crowning of the queen always a colourful ceremony - with Mary Chamberlain of Heffley Creek as the Fall Fair Queen, supported by two beautiful princesses Diane Bradford and Shirley Canaday.
Then came the parade prize winners and the Fair proper with the livestock, the produce, the handiwork, the booths and games for the children and the horse show, finally the big dance at night after the hall was cleared.
Most of the booths sold out but the gate take was nearly the same as last year - roughly $13 less.
M.C. at the public address mike was that almost pioneer early days valley bus driver Bill Mattenly of Clearwater.
Although not able to watch all the proceedings, the Times Editor and son Richard did sample the "first prize" corn and it was delicious.
Comments and criticisms (preferably constructive, but otherwise too) will be welcomed at the next meetings of the fair association as the year is reviewed.
The Fair has enlivened the spirit of competition and some excellent quality entries have been the result.
More directors or assistants and more Association members are needed to promote each department. Especially at High School age where present facilities and training could give these youngsters an edge over "experience".
It is planned to publish a list of prizewinners next week.
