2003 Royalty Review - Final Message From The Queen

Final message from Queen

Being crowned Miss North Thompson Fall Fair Queen
2002/2003 has rewarded me richly with memories, friendships
and community spirit. This past year has taught me to be open
to new ideas, and to collaborate with people I never would
have had the opportunity to meet otherwise. When I entered
the pageant as a candidate I never knew all the excitement the
year would entail. No only have I had the time of my life traveling
around British Columbia, but I have been honoured to do
so as a representative of our town.
The pageant is not only about long gowns (although we do
get to wear gorgeous ones) or about the crowns (that sparkle
like crazy) or all the traveling (which is always eventful);
instead it is about quelling one’s fears (like public speaking),
learning the history and development of the community, and
most of all it is about discovering the qualities that all individuals
and different places have to offer.
The last two weeks of being a resident of Barriere have
made me fully comprehend the attributes of our town and of
its many caring and compassionate people. The recent wildfire
that threatened our town and surrounding areas proved to
all residents the commitment that everyone has for one another.
The support of the many volunteers, hundreds of firemen,
the Salvation Army, the North Thompson Fire Relief Fund
and so many more people is amazingly overwhelming.
The dedication of these volunteers have put into helping
the people who have lost their homes makes us realize the
wonderful sense of family that our town possesses. These
qualities make me extremely proud to be the queen and a part
of Barriere. Throughout my reign three lovely ladies have
also displayed hours of hard work and dedication. For making
mine and Melissa’s year so wonderful I would like to thank
Lorraine Griffith, Beverly Murphy and Leslie Stirling for
everything they did this past year. Despite the tragic events
that have happened, I know that they are doing everything to
make this year’s pageant a success. The pageant will be held
on Friday, Aug. 29, and I hope to see everyone there to support
our seven beautiful candidates.
I would also like to thank the community of Barriere for
giving me the wonderful opportunity of representing a town I
will always be proud to have grown up in.
Your Fall Fair Queen —
