1977 Fall Fair Queen & Princesses Chosen
MISS NORTH THOMPSON Brenda Edwards, Miss First Mt, Leona Rangers, has been chosen as the 1977-78 Fall Fair Queen, for the North Thompson region. Her first Princess is Margi Hunsbedt, Miss Vavenby Community Club and the second Princess is Miss Luanne Cooper, Miss Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 242.
As there were only three contestants this year, each girl was assured of a crown, however the evening of the judging held a great deal of excitement and anticipation for everyone. Anne Genier is the Fall Fair Queen Contest Chairman and she introduced the three judges for the evening. They were Mrs. Pat Stewart of Heffley Creek, Mrs. Judith Byle of Barriere and Mrs. Vally Johnson of Barriere. Each of the girls then spoke briefly on their interests and hobbies. Miss Branch 242 Royal Canadian Legion enjoys crocheting and macramé as well as basketball, baseball, outdoors activities and community history. Miss Irs Mt. Leona Rangers enjoys sketching and painting as well as participating in Rangers, Cheerleading, Drama and Singing. Miss Vavenby Community Club writes beautiful poetry and enjoys camping, cats, and small children, not necessarily in that order. After their speeches the girls then entered the talent competition. Brenda Edwards displayed some sculpting and woodcarving she had done and sang a solo from the film "Mahogany" Margi Hunsbedt recited a poem which she has composed herself called "Bonnie Lee" Luanne Cooper spoke to us on her interest in working with children who were underprivileged, handicapped or even retarded. All of the girls expressed themselves well and presented a poised and charming Picture to the judges and the guests present.
The girls served tea, coffee and refreshments to the guests and were subsequently judged on their hostessing ability.
After a short time of deliberation, the judges announced the winner and her Princesses, and last year's Queen and Princesses passed on their robes and crowns to the respective winners.
Sharon Price is the outgoing Queen, Deldee Uppenborn is the outgoing first Princess and Jeannie Goodanetz is the outgoing Second Princess. Each of these girls were given a gift in appreciation for their years' reign and Mr. H. Leavitt, President of the Fall Fair Association thanked them for what they had done in representing the Fall Fair and this Community. He also wished the incoming Queen and her two Princesses every success and thanked them for being willing to give of their time and youth in the coming year.
Queen Brenda received a bouquet of red roses and a trophy as well as some lovely jewelry and a monetary gift. Each of the Princesses received a monetary gift and some jewelry. Even in the very near future the girls have a busy schedule lined up for themselves, T his coming weekend they will be present at the crowning of Miss Kamloops on the Labor Day Weekend they will be presiding at the North Thompson Fall Fair, and the following weekend they will be guests of Salmon Arm at their Fall Fair.
