1977 Biggest and Best Fair Yet
The largest crowd, the largest entry list, more rodeo and pony races all combined to make the 28th annual North Thompson Fall Fair the best ever. In spite of uncooperative weather on Sunday which featured heavy rain most of the day about four thousand people attended the fair this year. One of the best parades ever with entries from Kamloops the Cariboo as well as the North Thompson attracted crowds that lined the parade route from the United Church to the fairgrounds.
The well organized planning of the exhibits in the enlarged exhibit hall obscured the fact that there were 50% more entries in this years fair than last year, 1300 entries in all.
New and improved facilities everywhere on the Mr grounds helped make the livestock, poultry and rabbit displays more interesting.
The colorful parade led t# the Kamloops Legion pipe band and including the toe tapping rythmic music from the Carriboo Wheelers Square Dancers actually square dancing on their float , represented many hours of work in the well decorated floats and the youngsters entries.
First place in the Commercial class went to the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce which featured the, Kamloops Queens on a well decorated float. In the Club class the Barriere Old Age Pensioners won first for the second consecutive year, Barriere Lady lions second and Cariboo Square Dancers third. In the Youth class first was Kamloops 4H second was Barriere Cubs, 3rd was Boulder Mtn. Dairy Club. In the decorated car class the Kami Girls Baton Twirlers were first, second was Norman Fennell in an antique car and third was the Barriere Homemakers.
Nora Floritto and Brenda Crape of Heffley Creek won first prize for the Costumed Child and Pet entry with Robbie Kershaw winning second. The motorized child event was won by Greg Rilcoe second Dean Lodge.. Special awards went to Gregory Smith and Robbie Kershaw. Under six decorated bike was won by Wesley Kibble, Stanley Parker second and Sherry. Ross of Louis Creek third and Sharron Edward was fourth. Over six was won by Christy Paula of Little Fort, second Stacey Ross, third Barrie Ross and fourth Leah Edwards.
Child walking was won fay Gregory Smith, second went to Shelly Steiner and Debbie Zirphelt of Heffley Creek, third Burt Rilco and fourth Janice Fairclough, Louise Lodge and Heidi Krawec.
