The people of the communities from Heffley Creek to Little Fort can sit back now with a small sigh of relief, and a feeling of pride, too, for the job well done, of the Fall Fair which people in the hundreds were throughly enjoying on a warm, beautiful Labour Day. Committee members said that this year's Fair drew an estimated two thousand visitors, the highest number in its sixteen-year history.
Always smiled upon by the weatherman (according to oldtimers, the Fair never has been rained out) the 1965 Fair will be remembered for its brilliant sunshine and for its delighted visitors who found so much to look at and enjoy. Old and young turned out to enjoy the exhibits, try the 'blue,blue' fishpond, eat a choice meal or just sit down under the trees and reminisce about years and other Fairs.
The grandstand was packed all afternoon for the competitive horse events and even the odd "cow" event, which was the favorite of the day. Those in charge felt there had been a greater show of interest in these events, with more entries than former Fairs. The Committee cam in for much praise from those in the know for the excellent handling of the ring events.
Queen of the Fair, Anna Di Mambro, attracted much attention as did her attendant, Heather Powers and Ex-Queen Betty Johnson who was crowned in the 1965 royal personage.
The many members of the 1965 Fair Commitee who began planning and organizing this year's highly successful Fair when snow was still several feet deep, can rest content, now, with a job done, that they can be proud of.
